Online verification helps a seafarer, employer or authorised checker confirm that certificate details correspond with an official Malaysian record. Use only the Marine Department service—not a screenshot, social-media message or unknown third-party database.
Before you begin
Have the original certificate or a clear authorised copy available. Find the document type, certificate number and any other information requested on the official form. Enter details exactly, including letters, digits and punctuation.
The portal may support several document types, but the available choices and field labels can change. Read the page itself before proceeding.
Verification steps
- Open the official Marine Department verification page.
- Select the document type shown on the certificate.
- Enter the certificate number and any required identity field exactly.
- Submit the search once and allow the official page to respond.
- Compare the result carefully with the original: name, certificate type, capacity, limitation, issue or validity information.
- Save a dated record only if you are authorised to handle the personal information.
Verification should confirm identity and scope, not just show a green result. A genuine certificate may still be unsuitable for the job if its capacity, limitation or validity does not match.
If no result appears
Do not immediately accuse the holder of fraud. First:
- check for zero/O, one/I and spacing errors;
- confirm that the correct document category was selected;
- retry from the portal’s main page rather than an old bookmark;
- check whether the record is very recent or historical;
- confirm that the certificate is Malaysian-issued or meant to be recognised in Malaysia;
- contact the official authority using details published on its own site.
Do not send full identity documents through an unverified email address or messaging account. Redact information that is not needed when seeking preliminary support.
Privacy and fraud warnings
Certificate data is personal information. Verify only for a legitimate purpose and share the minimum necessary result. A recruiter asking for payment to “activate” a valid certificate, change a result or bypass the portal is a serious warning sign.
Seafarers should also verify what has been issued in their name. If a result is inconsistent, preserve screenshots, correspondence and the original document, then seek official assistance.
Record the check responsibly
For an authorised employment check, note the date, official URL, document type selected and whether the returned name, scope and validity information matched. A saved result shows what appeared at that time; it does not replace a fresh check for a later decision.
Protect the holder’s privacy. Do not circulate full screenshots in group chats or retain identity information without a legitimate reason. Redact unrelated numbers when asking for help, and use contact details published on the official site.
Questions to ask when details differ
- Was the correct document category selected?
- Is the printed number complete and legible?
- Does the result show a similar but different capacity or limitation?
- Was the certificate recently issued or amended?
- Is it issued by Malaysia, or is recognition a separate question?
- Which official office can confirm the discrepancy?
Keep the language neutral while checking. “The online result did not match this field” is accurate; “the certificate is fake” may be an unsupported conclusion.
Authoritative references
SDPx is an official Marine Department digital route used for Malaysian seafarer services. Interfaces and document requirements can change, so begin from the official portal and verify current instructions before submitting.
Who should use the system
Applicants and registered seafarers may use SDPx for relevant documentation and status workflows. The exact service available depends on your profile and current Marine Department process. Do not follow a link sent by an unknown recruiter without checking its address independently.
Prepare before starting
Gather the current documents listed for your service. These may include identity details, photographs, medical or training records, certificates and supporting evidence. Names, identity numbers and dates should match across documents. Use clear, complete scans and keep the originals.
A safe workflow
- Open the official SDPx English portal.
- Read the current service requirements.
- Create or access your account using your own contact details.
- Enter information exactly as shown on official documents.
- Upload clear files in the required format.
- Review every field before submission.
- Save the acknowledgement, reference number and status messages.
- Respond only through verified official channels.
Common causes of delay
Mismatched names, expired documents, cropped scans, unreadable photographs, wrong file formats and missing evidence can slow review. Do not create duplicate applications simply because a result is not immediate. Check status and use the official support route.
Scam warning
Be cautious if someone promises guaranteed approval, requests your login password or verification code, or demands payment to a personal account. The Marine Department seafarer page should be used to verify services and contacts.
Registration checklist
- Correct official SDPx address opened.
- Current requirements read.
- Names and dates match all documents.
- Clear, uncropped files prepared.
- Submission reference saved.
- Status checked through the official portal.
- Passwords and verification codes kept private.
Seafarers rely on several documents, and each serves a different purpose. A seaman card supports maritime identity functions, while the Buku Perkhidmatan Pelaut—often discussed in English as a discharge book or seafarer service book—records qualifying sea service and related entries. Neither replaces a passport, certificate of competency, medical certificate or visa when those are required.
Keep identity and service records accurate
Check the spelling of your name, identity number, photograph, dates and document number as soon as a document is issued. Ensure vessel service entries are completed accurately and supported by the records required under current procedures. An error left for years can complicate a later application.
Plan renewal early
Validity periods, eligibility evidence, appointments and fees are notice-dependent. Do not rely on an old social-media post or a colleague’s past application. Consult the Marine Department seafarer documentation page, current Malaysia Shipping Notices, and SDPx.
Before renewal, verify that personal details match your other documents, scans are legible, photographs meet current specifications and supporting sea-service evidence is complete. Save the submission acknowledgement and status reference.
If a document is lost or damaged
Protect yourself from misuse and begin the official replacement process promptly. Depending on current requirements, you may need a police report, written explanation, identity evidence, damaged original, photograph or fee. Record the loss date and location. Do not advertise the full document number publicly.
Keep secure copies
Store a clear scan in an encrypted or access-controlled location. A trusted family member may keep a backup. A copy usually does not replace the original for travel or service, but it can assist identification and replacement.
